Hello World!

Welcome to my website! This has been a long time in the works. I hope to make this place a repository for all my work, and a way to publish some of my writings.

My name is Jack Jowett, and I am, at the time of writing, a 22 year old photographer and film-maker based in Melbourne, Australia. I’ve been living in Australia for over 10 years now, and have become accustomed to the local way of life.

I studied fillmmaking at Swinburne University, completing their Advanced Diploma, where I had the opportunity to direct my first proper film. Out of the 12 films made that year, mine was one of only three that were selected for the ACMI screening. Quite an achievement, considering this was my first time. It helped that I had an excellent crew.

I love working with mechanical instruments to produce my work. Cameras, typewriters, projectors, and tape recorders. I’ve built up a curated collection of devices for every day use.

I am also skilled in their maintenance too, being a very intuitive and fast learner, I’ve come to master all of their inner workings. Every machine you see on the desk is one that I’ve purchased broken, and tinkered with until it started working again.

I am very detail oriented in my work. I enjoy the slow process of creating, iterating until something is perfect. I find that sometimes it is the little things that are the most important.

I am also learning about the art of camera repair from the now retired Yoshi Nagami, a legend to anyone who shoots film. I hope to start offering repair as a service very soon.

I look forward to sharing more of my work with you!
